When my little brother (14, heavily autistic, and one of your biggest fans) heard the news about your injury, my dad told him you may be gone for the year. He burst into tears, saying, “Why would I want to watch baseball if I can’t see my hero?”
The only thing that could stop his crying was some optimistic thinking, saying it’d be a month. D:

I was watching the game and saw it happen– knew it wasn’t good. I know that Cousins feels bad but it was a legal hit; I’m thinking that the rule should be changed so that only sliding into home plate should be allowed, as is the case in non-pro ball. Are you familiar w/ the Gayle Sayers story? While playing for the Chicago Bears in 1968(?), he sustained a potentially career ending knee injury. He had a very difficult rehab but he got thru it. (the inspiration for “Brian’s Song”.) I know you can, too, tho it won’t be easy. Just remember, there a lot of people pulling for you, including myself. My thoughts and prayers are w/ you and your wife.

We’ve had some great teams and the Giants never won it all until you came up and started catching last year. You were awesome and an extremely (if not the most) valuable player on our World Championship team last year. Rookie of the Year was most deserving. Not only are you a great player, but you seem to be very humble and a great guy in general. Keep it up man, I can speak for all Giants fans when I say we’re honored to have you be one of the faces of our franchise.
Being an active hoops player going through an ankle injury myself, I know how painful it can be, not just the recovery process and physical therapy, but not being able to go out there and play ball. Don’t push it bud, rest up and come back when you’re 100% because you’ve got a lot more great years ahead of you (in a Giants uniform hopefully). Your overall health and career are more important to us than a repeat. We’ve waited 50+ years for a championship, if needed, we can wait till next year to get back to (and win) the Fall Classic.
